What is a UULE parameter?
UULE is the parameter Google uses to tell a search request which physical location the searcher is in. Adding &uule= to a Google search URL returns results as if you were searching from that city — which is exactly what you need for local SEO rank checking.
How to write a canonical location name
- Use Google Ads geo-target canonical names, e.g.
Chennai,Tamil Nadu,India. - Comma-separated, no spaces after commas.
- City, region, country — from most specific to least specific.
- Country-only targeting works too:
India.
UULE vs the &near= and &gl= parameters
- uule — simulates a precise physical location. Most accurate for local rank checks.
- gl — sets the country of the Google search, not the city.
- hl — sets the interface language only.
